How to Write Email Addresses

To make sure your email address works, you must enter it into the box in the correct way. An email should always be written in lowercase letters. Don't use any CAPITAL letters. There are three parts to an email address.

  1. User Name: This is the part you chose. It might be your name (jsmith) or nickname or letters and numbers (js1234).

  2. Host: This is the name of the account. It always has an @ between it and your user name. If it is Hotmail, you would write @hotmail

  3. Domain Type: It always includes a dot (.) between it and the host name. It will probably be .com or .net. If you work for a charitable organisation, it may be .org. You might also have a country code attached. In Australia, the code is AU. This is added to an address as .au

Your email should look like jsmith@hotmail.com or
jsmith@yahoo.com.au.
